Tampa FL– On November 16th I attended Camp Games 2019 at Sparkman Wharf Downtown Tampa. Camp Games is a yearly event that Camp puts on for competitors. This year 186 competitors competed on the turf to battle it out through a series of athletic competitions that showcased their speed, strength, and power. The competitors are on teams of 4 and have been training for a year with personal trainers to potentially win hundreds and thousands of dollars worth of prizes and a gold medal to go along with it!

Environmental Portrait #3: Devin Beresid

This is Devin. She is a sophomore at University of Tampa who spends 2 days a week working at the local tanning salon called Soleil on West Bay to Bay. She enjoys greeting customers and creating a clean environment for people to feel their best while getting a tan. She has been working at Soleil for 6 months and has sold endless tanning lotions and monthly memberships.

What do you love about working at Soleil Tanning salon?

What I love about Soleil is that I work by myself. Sometimes I can get super stressed out working in a loud environment, so being able to work in a calm & quiet atmosphere is awesome.

What is your favorite item to sell at the salon and why?

My favorite thing to sell at the salon is the lotions– they’re the priciest item which means I make a bigger chunk of commission from them. I also am not the best at selling because I don’t really push people, but everyone buys lotions without you having to sell it to them so its like they’re giving me the commission.

What is the most challenging part about your job?

My job for the most part is super easy. The only super challenging thing is scheduling. We each work 2 days a week but they’re 10-12 hour shifts. Being by yourself that whole day with no break can make me freak out a little.

Has there been a day when you just have had enough at work?

There has been times where I’ve been fed up with work. Because you work by yourself, handling the busy nights can get super stressful especially if the clients aren’t nice. On busy nights I do my best to prepare the tanning beds and spray booths as fast as I can for people, but some customers get angry with me if I take too long for them. As being someone who doesn’t like to be talked down to, these kinds of times are the ones that make me want to walk out of the door.

In your opinion, what makes Soleil stand out from other tanning salons?

Soleil most definitely stands out from other salons because the quality of our products, beds, & tanning solutions perform much better than our “competitors” Zoom Tan. We have a wider range of spray tan colors which serve the diversified clientele we have. We also have stronger UV beds so you’re getting what you pay for and seeing the results faster. Lastly, we offer a wide range of products to satisfy the widely-ranged desires that our customers have.
